The ranking includes researchers who fall within the top 2% percentile or above, based on their c-score (with and without self-citations).
This c-score is calculated using standardized data on citations, h-index, and other bibliometric indicators derived from Scopus data provided by Elsevier.

Researchers are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, allowing for a comprehensive representation of various disciplines.
This classification is based on the Stanford University and Elsevier data used for the ranking.

Users can claim their profiles by logging in using their university domain email address. The website has a verification process where administrators must approve claimed profiles based on the provided university email. Once approved, a badge will be added to the user's profile to signify their verified status.

As a user, you will have the ability to update certain parts of your profile, such as your profile picture and social media links (e.g., Google Scholar, ORCID, ResearchGate, LinkedIn, and your university profile). Once your profile is approved, you can make these updates to your personal profile from settings.

The website has different levels of visibility for user profiles. Some information, such as your name, institution, and country, may be publicly visible. However, certain details like your social media links or profile picture may only be visible to verified users if you have updated your information.

Every claimed researcher can download their certificate for free, at full print quality, as PNG, JPG, or PDF, from My Certificate in your account menu. Elite Researcher adds the choices, never the quality: pick which listed year the certificate reports, choose which of your affiliations it names, show your listed years as ranges or spell out every one, add a Top 10 ribbon, and place your institute's logo on the card. A ribbon can only be switched on for a year where your data supports it, so nothing on the certificate is ever a claim the record does not back. Your logo stays in your browser; it is added to the image as you download it and is never uploaded to TOPSCINET

The badge is a small image you can embed on your lab page, your faculty profile, or your email signature to show your Top 2% listing. It is free for every claimed researcher. Go to the Top 2% Badge in your account menu, pick one of six styles, and copy the ready-made embed code. The colour tells readers which list it refers to: blue for the single-year ranking, gold for the career-long one. Your listed years are read from your verified record and printed on the badge, so it updates on its own when new data is published each year, with no action from you.
