Position Overview

The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in experimental mechanics, under the supervision of Dr. Kavan Hazeli. This position focuses on studying high-temperature behavior and deformation mechanisms of additively manufactured (AM) bi-metallic alloys, particularly under cyclic loading.

This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent on continued funding and satisfactory performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct mechanical testing and microscopy analysis on advanced materials.

  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.

  • Contribute to or lead research proposal writing efforts.

  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Mentor and guide undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Collaborate with faculty and research teams on interdisciplinary projects.


Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (degree must be conferred upon hire).

  • U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or protected status in compliance with ITAR/EAR regulations (8 U.S.C. 1234b(a)(3)).

  • Strong analytical, research, and technical writing skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.

  • Proven ability to mentor students and work effectively in a collaborative research environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in high-temperature materials testing, microscopy, and data analysis.

  • Proficiency with MATLAB and Python.

  • Research experience related to additive manufacturing, bi-metallic alloys, and cyclic deformation.
