Position Overview
The Full-Time Fire Science Faculty member will deliver engaging, high-quality instruction in the Fire Safety Program. This role involves curriculum development, student mentorship, and alignment of instructional materials with program objectives.
This position is in-person at the Merrill Campus, with occasional classes at other NTC sites or community locations.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Student Success

Deliver effective instruction across multiple modalities (in-person, online, hybrid).

Prepare and update syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments per NTC standards.

Evaluate student performance, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate academic records.

Ensure compliance with FERPA and other privacy standards.
-
Maintain regular office hours and student communication per faculty contract.

Stay current with emerging instructional technologies and practices.
Program-Specific Duties
-
Manage state certification processes for Fire Science students and ensure IFSAC compliance.

Administer certification exams and maintain documentation for each student.

Collaborate with vendors and the department to plan and manage capital budgets for equipment and vehicles.
College & Community Engagement
-
Participate in faculty meetings, in-service events, and student recruitment activities.
-
Mentor new faculty and support onboarding within the Fire Science program.

Build relationships with local fire departments, community organizations, and K–12 partners to strengthen program outreach.
Professional Development
-
Maintain Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) teaching credentials.

Pursue ongoing professional growth, licensure renewal, and certification maintenance.

Participate in college-led professional training and development programs.
Required Qualifications
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection, Fire Technology, or related field.
-
Associate degree candidates may be considered if willing to complete a bachelor’s degree within five (5) years.
Experience:
-
Minimum two years (4,000 hours) of relevant, full-time occupational experience (with at least one year in the last five).

Experience teaching or training diverse student populations preferred.
Certifications (Required at Hire):

Firefighter I & II
-
Hazmat Operations
-
Driver/Operator Pumper
-
Fire Officer I
-
Fire Emergency Services Instructor (FESI I)
Certifications to be Completed After Hire:
-
CPR (within 6 months)
-
Fire Officer II (preferred within 12 months)
-
FESI II (within 6 months)
-
Live Fire Instructor (within 12 months)
Knowledge Areas:
-
SCBA systems, PPE, command-level training, fire codes, and Wisconsin Fire Service certification standards.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LMS systems, and digital classroom tools.
Other Requirements:

Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with a clean record.

CDL-A or B preferred.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Physical Activity: Moderate lifting (10–50 lbs), frequent standing, climbing, and movement.

Work Setting: Primarily outdoor training environments with exposure to weather and light hazards.

Vision, Hearing, and Smell: High sensory requirements due to the nature of fire science instruction.
