Position Summary
The Adjunct Instructor – Therapeutic Massage will provide engaging instruction in therapeutic massage as part of GTCC’s Massage Therapy Program. The instructor will be responsible for teaching through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training while maintaining professional and ethical standards.
This role includes managing course delivery, supporting student success, and ensuring compliance with the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy as outlined in NC Administrative Code (Title 21, Chapter 30, Section .0612 – Instructional Staff Qualifications).
Work schedules may vary, including day, evening, and weekend assignments.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching
-
Prepare and teach departmental courses using learner-centered methods.

Develop lesson plans, teaching strategies, and instructional materials for diverse learning styles.

Incorporate appropriate technologies in classroom, lab, or distance learning environments.

Create and model a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports student engagement and success.

Prepare and maintain syllabi, supplementary materials, and instructional media.
-
Participate in curriculum updates, revisions, and the development of new courses as needed.

Evaluate and document student learning outcomes.
Professional Development

Maintain professional credentials, licenses, and field expertise.
-
Participate in training and professional development to enhance instructional skills.
Administration
-
Maintain accurate student records (attendance, grades, etc.) using college systems such as Colleague, WebAdvisor, and Moodle.

Oversee classroom and laboratory environments to ensure safety and proper equipment use.
-
Adhere to all college, state, and federal regulations.
Student Support

Promote student retention and success by providing guidance and mentorship.

Address student concerns promptly and refer them to appropriate campus or community resources.

Model professional employability skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and responsibility.
Additional Duties

Take class attendance and maintain student documentation as required.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Education & Licensure Requirements
Required:
-
Associate’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
-
License in Massage & Bodywork Therapy (LMBT) or licensure in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, or Nursing.
Preferred:
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
-
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) Certified Instructor through the NMT Center.
Experience Requirements
Required:
-
Minimum two years of professional experience as a licensed massage therapist.
-
Teaching and/or industry training experience.
Preferred:
-
More than three years of professional experience in massage therapy.

Experience assessing student learning outcomes.
-
Experience with distance learning or alternate instructional delivery systems.

Conduct classes and labs according to established schedules (weekdays, evenings, and occasional Saturdays).
