Job Summary

The Health and Public Services Department at Arapahoe Community College is accepting applications for part-time Instructors to teach in the Medical Assistant and Medical Office Program.

Candidates must be able to teach at both the Littleton Campus and the Sturm Collaboration Campus at Castle Rock. This posting will be used to fill multiple part-time Instructor vacancies. Finalists must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online courses.

Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends.

The instructor must be patient and respectful while also providing clear expectations for student performance. Dedication to both the class and the goals of the program is essential.


Part-Time Instructor Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction:

  • Meet all class periods and start/end classes promptly.

  • Teach assigned curriculum and required texts/materials.

  • Provide a complete syllabus before the first class, including course objectives, assignments, grading policy, and contact information.

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and submit required data (no-shows, last day of attendance, etc.) promptly.

  • Use technology, including the College’s learning management system, Desire2Learn (D2L), to facilitate learning.

Student Assessment (Grading):

  • Maintain accurate grading records in D2L.

  • Submit final grades by the due date in Banner (the college’s student information system).

  • Provide consistent and timely feedback to students.

Planning:

  • Prepare thoroughly for each class meeting.

  • Implement learning strategies addressing diverse learning styles and community college populations.

  • Align course content and assessment methods with course objectives.

Communication:

  • Provide timely feedback using the ACC email account.

  • Check college and D2L emails every 24–48 hours during the class term and at least one week after grades are submitted.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in a related field and a current industry-recognized credential/certification (such as CMA, RMA, NCMA, or CCMA) OR

  • Five years (full-time equivalent) non-teaching occupational experience in Medical Assisting (including 2 years in clinical general practice and 2 years within the last 5 years) and a current industry-recognized credential/certification (CMA, RMA, NCMA, or CCMA).

  • Experience teaching and/or training within the MOT/MAP field.

  • Commitment to supporting students from diverse populations, including historically marginalized communities (people of color, LGBTQ+, veterans, first-generation graduates, and individuals with disabilities).

  • Demonstrated growth mindset regarding professional development.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Note: Current teachers applying to teach ACC courses may include non-teaching occupational hours older than the 5–7-year requirement if they have the required degree, credentials, and at least 3 years of full-time or 6 years of part-time teaching experience in the discipline.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience facilitating equitable outcomes for students using inclusive strategies.

  • Proven ability to build strong professional relationships and collaborate with internal/external partners.

  • Participation or leadership in professional organizations, committees, or taskforces.

  • Experience teaching/training remotely or developing multi-format courses.

  • Ability to design clear assessment and evaluation objectives aligned with expectations.

  • Pay Rate: Lecture/Lab (LLB) course paid per credit hour:

    • Level 1: $1,472.16

    • Level 2: $1,546.48

    • Level 3: $1,618.23
      (Individuals not currently teaching within CCCS start at Level 1.)
