Job Description

Distinguishing Features of the Class

This position involves performing para-professional tasks to assist community college faculty. Duties vary from setting up equipment in laboratories to tutoring students in developmental centers. The tasks assigned are generally supportive in nature and may be performed in classrooms, laboratories, research or development centers, learning centers, or computer centers. Work is performed under the general supervision of an instructor or faculty member. Supervision may be exercised over students or clerical assistants.


Typical Work Activities

  • Assist instructors in classrooms and laboratories by demonstrating apparatus, equipment, and teaching aids.

  • Administer and/or proctor tests under the direction of instructors or faculty members.

  • Assist students in the use of various technical equipment in classrooms and laboratories.

  • Tutor students individually in classrooms, laboratories, or learning centers.

  • Assist instructors in maintaining academic records and preparing reports.

  • Requisition, maintain, and issue supplies and equipment to students and faculty.

  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of teaching fundamentals and academic subjects in the assigned area.

  • Ability to effectively work with and tutor students.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with students and faculty.

  • Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions.

  • Initiative, resourcefulness, reliability, and integrity.

  • Commitment to fostering and advancing a diverse and inclusive workforce.

  • Physically capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft computer applications and basic clinical practices.

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
