Position Overview

SWCCD invites applications for a part-time adjunct instructor to teach Medical Billing and Coding courses. Positions are added to a hiring pool and reviewed as needed.

Courses may include:

  • MEDOP 21 – Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Coding:
    Focuses on guidelines for the CPT coding system and the application of rules to patient services, including conventions, regulatory guidance, and coding software.

  • MEDOP 22 – International Classification of Diseases (ICD-CM) Coding:
    Covers guidelines and rules for ICD-CM coding, emphasizing diagnostic accuracy, proper code assignment, and compliance with regulations.

Class Format: Face-to-face, weekday classes held at the National City Higher Education Center campus.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience.

  • Option 2: Associate degree and six years of professional experience.

    Professional experience must directly relate to the teaching assignment.

Applicants with degrees from foreign institutions must provide a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization.


Desired Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Health Information Technology, Medical Billing and Coding, or Medical Assisting.

  • Minimum two years of experience in CPT and ICD-CM coding.

  • Teaching experience preferred but not required.

  • Employment Requirements:

    • Fingerprinting (LiveScan) within 10 days of employment.

    • Proof of tuberculosis clearance (within 4 years).

    • Verification of U.S. work eligibility.
