Position Overview

South Suburban College (SSC) invites qualified professionals to join the Allied Health Department as Adjunct Faculty to teach Coding Specialist courses within the Medical Billing and Coding program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong professional credentials, teaching ability, and a commitment to student success in health information education.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).

  • Certified as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P).

  • Possess at least a baccalaureate degree in a related field.

  • Experience in:

    • Curriculum development and instructional design.

    • Student evaluation and counseling.

    • Program management and achieving measurable student outcomes.

  • Knowledge of CAHIIM (Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education) and AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) standards.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) or Health Information Management (HIM).

  • Three to five (3–5) years of college-level teaching experience in an accredited HIT program.

  • Experience in developing didactic and clinical outcomes/curricula.

  • Strong technology integration and classroom management skills.

  • Active participation in professional HIT organizations and familiarity with current industry needs.
