Position Overview
The University of Missouri’s Department of Radiology is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Coding Specialist to accurately code and review radiology procedures.
This position is linked to Job ID 57262 (Medical Coding Specialist-Certified – Radiology), and one candidate will be hired based on qualifications.
The role ensures compliance with federal and state coding regulations, maximizes reimbursement accuracy, and supports internal and external reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes for radiology services.

Validate coding accuracy through audits and assist with billing compliance reviews.

Collaborate with the team to test coding applications and troubleshoot updates in systems such as RADNET, IDX/BAR, and Powerchart.

Work with the Paperless Collection System to process ODR reports and charge corrections.

Support Medicare Part B corrections to optimize reimbursement.

Stay updated on current coding guidelines and regulatory changes.

Report trends or potential coding misuse to the supervisor.

Assist in training and onboarding related to new coding software.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Minimum Qualifications
-
Completion of a coding certification program or equivalent training using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 systems.

One (1) year of related medical coding experience may be substituted.

Must obtain one of the following certifications within one (1) year of employment:

AHIMA Certifications: CCA, CCS, RHIT, RHIA
-
AAPC Certifications: CPC/CPC-A, COC/COC-A, CIC/CIC-A
Existing staff in this title as of 2014 are grandfathered from the certification requirement.

Preferred Qualifications
-
Two (2) years of experience coding in a hospital or physician practice setting.

Additional certifications or licenses as required by the department.
