Job Summary
Volunteer State Community College invites applications for the position of Instructor of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education.
This full-time, 12-month term position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction using integrative technologies, advising students, and supporting the mission of the College through active participation in institutional and community activities.
The Instructor works under the supervision of the Director of EMS Education and plays a key role in the assessment, planning, development, and implementation of the EMS Education curriculum, including EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic courses.
Key Responsibilities

Teach 38ā42 credit hours per year across various modalities: on-ground, online, hybrid, and web-enhanced.

Offer evening, weekend, off-campus, and dual enrollment courses as required.

Develop and evaluate curriculum, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards.

Participate in student advising, recruitment, and persistence efforts through graduation.

Maintain required office hours and submit reports (attendance, progress, grades) by established deadlines.

Serve on college and departmental committees and participate in professional development and community service.

Ensure compliance with Tennessee Board of Regents, CAAHEP, and CoAEMSP standards, as well as Tennessee Department of Health regulations.

Collaborate with clinical coordinators for site scheduling, student orientation, and communication with clinical partners.

Maintain EMS training facilities and equipment inventory.

Act as liaison between students, clinical agencies, and licensing/certification bodies.

Conduct advisory committee meetings and assist in selecting and training instructors and field preceptors.
Minimum Qualifications

Associateās Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
-
Minimum two years of experience practicing in the pre-hospital environment.

Minimum two years of EMS educational administration or 300+ hours of instructional experience in EMS programs.

Endorsement in an EMS Boardāapproved trauma, cardiac, and pediatric course.

Completion of an EMS Boardāapproved instructor course.

Must be licensed or eligible for Paramedic licensure in Tennessee (license must be free from revocation, denial, or suspension).

Must meet all requirements set by CAAHEP, CoAEMSP, and the Tennessee Department of Health/Division of EMS.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelorās Degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Supervisory or management experience.

College-level teaching experience.
