Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Health Professions, the Paramedic Lab Assistant supports the Paramedic Program by assisting with laboratory preparation and clean-up, providing instructional assistance, and supporting students during clinical and lab experiences. This position requires professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work with students in a clinical and academic setting.


Essential Job Duties

  • Assist with preparation and clean-up of laboratory sessions.

  • Support students in the assigned clinical site and/or campus lab.

  • Oversee clinical experiences for students enrolled in the Paramedic Program, traveling to clinical sites two to three days per week as needed.

  • Adhere to applicable accreditation standards, college policies, and program curricula.

  • Deliver safe, competent, and consistent instruction to students.

  • Demonstrate professionalism in:

    • Appearance

    • Timeliness

    • Adherence to institutional policies and standards

    • Conflict management

    • Ethical judgment

    • Self-directed learning and professional growth

    • Interactions with patients, the public, and healthcare professionals

  • Support the lead instructor using effective adult learning techniques, including:

    • Demonstrations

    • Skills training

    • Quizzing and class discussions

  • Provide basic academic counseling and guidance to help students achieve learning goals.

  • Assist in evaluating student performance according to established standards and criteria.

  • Maintain communication with the Program Director and instructors at Northeast State Community College.

  • Provide appropriate supervision to students during clinical rotations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current Tennessee Paramedic License in good standing (no history of revocation, denial, or suspension).

  • At least two (2) years of experience providing advanced life support in a prehospital or emergency department setting.

  • Current endorsements in trauma, cardiac, and pediatric care courses.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or higher in a related field from an accredited institution.

  • One or more years of teaching or instructional experience.

  • Conversational ability or fluency in a second language.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, digital record management systems, and general operating systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across diverse socioeconomic populations, including students, families, staff, and public officials.

  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.

  • Professional demeanor, communication, and attire.

  • Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment.
