Position Summary

Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC) seeks a qualified Surgical Technology Program Director to provide academic and administrative leadership at the Lacombe Campus. This grant-funded position oversees program development, accreditation compliance, faculty supervision, and student success. If grant funding ceases and no alternate source is secured, the position will be discontinued.

The Program Director will maintain alignment with CAAHEP/ARC-STSA Standards, AST Core Curriculum, and institutional policies. The role includes didactic and clinical instruction, program evaluation, and ensuring accreditation readiness.


Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Administration

  • Direct all aspects of program organization, curriculum development, evaluation, and accreditation.

  • Develop and maintain the Program Master Plan of Education, syllabi, and assessment tools.

  • Maintain accreditation with CAAHEP and ARC/STSA, including self-study reports and site visit coordination.

  • Conduct regular Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) meetings.

  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and clinical instructors.

  • Manage student records, clinical affiliations, and credentialing compliance.

  • Ensure students meet surgical case requirements and clinical competency standards.

  • Lead program reviews, outcome assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain equipment inventory, budgets, and lab readiness.

Instruction & Student Success

  • Teach didactic, laboratory, and clinical courses using evidence-based methods.

  • Develop engaging course materials and use technology to enhance learning.

  • Counsel students on academic and professional progress.

  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and performance.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with CAAHEP/ARC-STSA and state regulations.

  • Submit accreditation documents, annual reports, and curriculum changes.

  • Serve as the primary liaison with accreditation and regulatory agencies.

  • Participate in professional development, college committees, and community outreach.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Surgical Technology (Bachelor’s preferred; Master’s desirable).

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program.

  • Current national certification (CST preferred) through NBSTSA or NCCT.

  • Minimum five years of recent surgical technologist experience or instructional experience.

  • Knowledge of CAAHEP/ARC-STSA standards, AST Core Curriculum, and NBSTSA exam outlines.

  • Demonstrated ability in instructional design, curriculum planning, and student assessment.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Surgical Technology, Education, or Health Sciences.

  • Experience as a Program Director or in academic leadership.

  • Prior involvement in accreditation processes.

  • Proficiency in Canvas LMS, simulation equipment, and clinical tracking software.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple priorities.

  • Competence in classroom and lab technology, simulation systems, and data management.

  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities.


Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long surgical procedures.

  • Manual dexterity for demonstrating clinical and lab techniques.

  • Ability to respond quickly in clinical settings and perform CPR.

  • Regular use of computers, audiovisual equipment, and simulation systems.
