Position Summary
The Adjunct Instructor for Surgical Technology will provide engaging, high-quality instruction and mentorship to students preparing for careers in the operating room. The instructor will be responsible for creating an inclusive and motivating learning environment, maintaining accurate academic and attendance records, and ensuring that all course delivery aligns with institutional standards and departmental expectations.
The ideal candidate will possess both practical surgical experience and the enthusiasm to inspire future professionals in the field. This role reports directly to the Department Dean or designated representative.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Deliver approved courses using applied learning strategies consistent with program objectives and course syllabi.

Provide instruction across a variety of environments, including on-campus, off-site, and web-based learning settings.

Demonstrate proficiency in surgical technology content areas and enthusiasm for teaching.

Prepare and maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and progress in accordance with college policy.

Foster a supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and professional growth.

Maintain and update course materials, syllabi, and related instructional resources.

Participate in organizational meetings, orientations, and professional development sessions.

Monitor safety protocols within classroom and laboratory settings.

Maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA and college regulations.

Collaborate effectively with faculty peers, administrators, and students to support MTC’s mission.
Minimum Qualifications

Current credential in Surgical Technology from a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a surgical technologist or instructor (or a combination thereof) within the last five years.

Strong communication skills with proficiency in English, both written and verbal.

Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and instructional technology.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet instructional deadlines.

Flexibility to work irregular schedules as assigned.

Successful completion of a background check.

Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation.
Preferred Attributes

Prior teaching experience, particularly in postsecondary or technical education settings.

Experience developing or enhancing surgical technology curriculum.

Demonstrated ability to motivate diverse student populations.
