Position Overview
SUNY Suffolk seeks a Full-Time, 12-Month Professional Assistant (PA) in Surgical Technology, beginning Spring 2026, at the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood, NY.
The Professional Assistant will play a vital instructional and supervisory role within the Division of Health, Wellness, and Science, supporting students in both classroom and clinical environments. This position involves collaboration with clinical site managers, coordinators, and faculty to ensure compliance with program accreditation standards and the highest quality of surgical technology education.
This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise and evaluate students in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.

Arrange and oversee preceptors for student clinical placements.

Monitor and document student progress weekly at all clinical rotation sites.

Maintain program and personal credentials in accordance with accrediting and regulatory standards.

Assist in classroom and lab instruction, clinical coordination, and evaluation of learning outcomes.

Serve as liaison between the college and affiliated clinical sites.

Ensure all course and program learning outcomes are met.

Support compliance with accreditation and certification requirements through accurate documentation.

Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.

Travel to clinical sites across Suffolk County, Nassau County, and the NYC metro area.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support program success.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Current national certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Three (3) years of recent experience in any combination of the following within the last five years:

Operating room scrub role

Instruction in surgical technology

Supervision of students in a clinical setting
