Position Summary:
Prairie State College is seeking an experienced part-time Welding Instructor to deliver customized welding training to a wide range of clients. The ideal candidate will hold AWS certifications in SMAW and GMAW or GTAW welding applications.
Applicants should be capable of working independently, using sound judgment, and engaging a diverse student population in both foundational and advanced welding techniques. Flexibility in scheduling is essential for various instructional assignments.
Instructional topics may include:

Principles of Flat Welding

Horizontal Welding and Brazing

Metal Inert and Vertical Welding

Tungsten Inert and Overhead Welding

AWS Structural Certification
-
AWS Sense Level 1 Experience

GMAW and GTAW Applications
Reporting Relationship:
Reports directly to the Manager, Workforce and Community Partnerships – Workforce Trades, and supports the Executive Director, Workforce Development and Community Education in achieving departmental and institutional goals.
Essential Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver instructional activities that align with curriculum goals.

Organize lessons logically to meet all program objectives.

Utilize effective assessment tools to evaluate student learning.

Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.

Communicate effectively with students to support their educational development.

Open and close the welding lab safely and securely.

Conduct classes independently with minimal supervision.

Provide progress updates on students when requested.
Minimum Qualifications:

AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) or AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Demonstrated instructional or training experience.

High proficiency in welding; a competency test will be part of the interview process.
Preferred Qualifications:

Associate degree in Welding Technology or a related field.

Previous teaching experience, ideally at the community college level.

Experience working with culturally and intellectually diverse populations.

Ability to employ varied teaching methodologies to enhance learning outcomes.
Work Schedule:
Varies based on course schedules and customized training assignments.
Compensation:
Starting at $35 per hour (minimum rate).
