Work Schedule

  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Note: Occasional evening and weekend hours required to support student lab and field work.


Position Summary

The University of North Carolina Asheville invites applications for a Laboratory Manager to serve the Departments of Environmental Science and Physics & Astronomy.

The Laboratory Manager will oversee all laboratory operations, demonstration collections, and field activities that support the instructional and research missions of both departments. This includes preparing lab materials, maintaining and ordering supplies, ensuring equipment maintenance, coordinating travel for field work, and upholding safety standards for all lab and field activities.

This role requires strong communication, adaptability, and organizational skills, as well as a proactive approach to lab management and student support. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with faculty, staff, and students, and is encouraged to pursue professional development opportunities relevant to laboratory and instructional management.

Required Education & Experience

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Physics, Astronomy, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 2+ years of equivalent experience.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and evolving environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching or supervisory experience.

  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment, supply management, and operational maintenance.

  • Prior experience coordinating fieldwork logistics and student lab support.
