Position Description

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a Lecturer position beginning August 16, 2026. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position, renewable annually.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or a related field and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and includes a full benefits package.

The department seeks candidates who will contribute to the academic excellence and inclusivity of the university community through their teaching and service.


Teaching Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach three courses per semester (Fall and Spring).

  • Instruct both introductory and upper-level courses in astronomy and astrophysics.

  • Promote and expand experiential learning opportunities within the department’s curriculum.

Examples of experiential learning may include telescope site visits, research participation, and internship development.

The University of Florida offers hands-on facilities such as:

Research and Institutional Resources

The successful candidate will have access to UF’s research facilities and telescopes, including:

  • 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (Spain)

  • Dharma Survey Telescope (Arizona)

  • MINERVA Australis Exoplanet RV Array

UF is home to HiPerGator, one of the most powerful high-performance computers among U.S. public universities.
The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate within UF’s Astraeus Space Institute, which supports interdisciplinary space-related research.
