Position Description

The Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured Assistant/Associate Professor position in Experimental Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Physics. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2026, with a 1:1 teaching load.

This position is closely associated with the Center for Quantum Research and Technology (CQRT) at OU, a facility designed for advanced fundamental research. The CQRT (https://ou.edu/cqrt) is located in a state-of-the-art physics building featuring 18,000 square feet of laboratory space that meets NIST-A specifications for vibration, temperature, humidity, and electromagnetic interference control.

Additional university resources include cleanroom facilities and supercomputer access.


Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels (one course per semester).

  • Maintain a strong record of original, published research.

  • Develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program that complements and expands existing efforts at OU.

Current research areas at OU include:

  • Ultracold Atoms, Molecules, and Gases

  • Microelectronic, Photonic, and Quantum Devices

  • Quantum Optics

  • Precision Spectroscopy

  • Quantum Information and Entanglement

  • Scanning Probe Microscopy

  • Quantum, Topological, and Strongly-Correlated Materials


Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Physics or a related field

  • Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience
