Position Summary

The Research Scientist will play a vital role in the National Crystallization Center (NCC) — a leading research facility that supports the structural biology community. The NCC advances crystallization science by providing access to cutting-edge experimental methods for macromolecular crystal generation and structure determination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage daily NCC operations.

  • Develop and maintain optimization pipelines.

  • Collaborate with the NCC team and external researchers.

  • Supervise research associates and support outreach programs.

  • Teach in NCC workshops and present findings at conferences.

This position is ideal for a creative PhD-level scientist passionate about crystallography and eager to work in a dynamic, collaborative research environment.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.

  • Strong expertise in crystallization methods and molecular biology.

  • Knowledge of macromolecular crystallography and protein biochemistry.

  • Excellent teamwork, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage experiments and engage with the external scientific community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or interest in automation and robotics for crystallization.

  • Familiarity with advanced X-ray crystallography techniques (screening, optimization, seeding, harvesting).


Physical Demands:

  • Standing during lab work.

  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
