Job Summary

The Department of Biology at UMass Amherst invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer specializing in Neurobiology.

This is a 2-year academic-year appointment, renewable based on performance, with the potential for continuing appointment after four years.

Teaching duties will include laboratory and classroom instruction in Neurobiology and related Biology courses. Assignments may vary based on departmental needs and candidate expertise.

This position coincides with the launch of a new Neuroscience major, developed jointly with the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, curriculum development, and a strong commitment to inclusive education.


Essential Functions

  • Teach lecture and lab courses in Neurobiology.

  • Develop and implement lab curricula or Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs).

  • Participate in departmental and institutional service.

  • Incorporate evidence-based pedagogical practices.

  • Contribute to ongoing discussions on curriculum design, assessment, and educational innovation aligned with Biology Department Learning Goals.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Neurobiology, or a closely related discipline (by time of hire).

  • Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate Biology or Neurobiology in an active learning environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with inclusive course design and modern assessment strategies.

  • Proven ability to develop laboratory courses or CUREs.

  • Commitment to working effectively with diverse student populations.


Additional Details

  • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (academic year)

  • Work Environment: Office and classroom setting

  • Salary Range: $65,550 – $77,226 per year

    Salary placement will depend on experience, rank, and collective bargaining agreements.
