Position Summary

HKU invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computational Chemistry and/or AI for Chemistry. The successful candidate will develop an innovative research program complementing the Department’s existing strengths, mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students, and contribute to departmental teaching and service.


Strategic Areas of Expertise (Examples)

  • Quantum chemistry or quantum dynamics

  • Computational statistical mechanics in biology, materials, or soft matter

  • AI applications in chemical theory, computation, synthetic chemistry, chemical biology, or functional materials


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an independent, high-caliber research program

  • Publish research findings in reputable journals and present at conferences

  • Secure external funding through grant applications

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including Physical Chemistry lectures and labs

  • Mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in research

  • Contribute to departmental service and scholarly activities


Essential Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physical Sciences

  • Strong publication record

  • Teaching experience and ability to deliver high-quality instruction

  • Research proposal compatible with the Department’s existing strengths

  • Commitment to student mentoring

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
