Position Overview

The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at CMU is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the development and analysis of commercial systems for large-language models (LLMs). The role combines research in AI/ML, economics, and game theory with practical programming to design sustainable, fair, and scalable commercial mechanisms for LLM deployment.


Core Responsibilities

  • Analyze LLM-based commercial models: collect, simulate, and evaluate system data for pricing, incentives, resource allocation, and multi-stakeholder interactions.

  • Design commercial and incentive mechanisms using economics, game theory, and market design.

  • Develop software components, simulations, or prototypes integrating LLM pipelines with economic/game-theoretic mechanisms.

  • Collaborate with research teams and external partners to ensure technical feasibility and scalability.

  • Coordinate tasks to maximize productivity and contribute to a diverse, inclusive work environment.


Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI/ML, or Data Science.

  • Research experience in economics and/or game theory.

  • Publications in top machine learning and/or economic conferences and journals.

  • Strong theoretical analysis and practical programming skills.

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
