Assistant Teaching Professor – Department of Mathematics

College of Science & Mathematics, Rowan University

The Department of Mathematics at Rowan University is seeking to hire an Assistant Teaching Professor to begin on September 1, 2026.

The department is looking for candidates who are passionate about teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates are expected to teach courses such as:

  • Probability and Statistics for Computer Science

  • Basics of Statistical Computing

  • Probability and Statistics for Electrical & Computer Engineering

  • Statistics for the Biomedical Sciences

  • Other departmental mathematics or statistics courses

In addition to teaching responsibilities, successful candidates will:

  • Contribute meaningfully to undergraduate and graduate program development and departmental service

  • Engage in professional development to stay updated with subject expertise and evidence-based instructional practices


Department Overview

The Department of Mathematics is one of six departments in the College of Science & Mathematics (also home to the School of Earth & Environment). It offers several degrees including:

  • B.A., B.S., and M.A. in Mathematics

  • B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Data Science (jointly with the Department of Computer Science)

The department supports nearly 6,000 students annually through multiple interdisciplinary collaborations and industry partnerships. Faculty members are involved in externally funded research, fostering a strong research culture alongside high-quality education.


Position Details

  • Appointment Type: Full-Time, 10-month, Non-Tenure Track

  • Teaching Load: 24 credits over two semesters

  • Overload and summer courses available for additional compensation

  • Renewable based on performance and program needs

  • Required Qualifications: PhD in Mathematical Sciences or a related discipline

  • Visa Sponsorship: Not available – candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US

  • Start Date: September 1, 2026

Salary & Benefits

Annual Base Salary Range (Assistant Teaching Professor): Ranges 21, 24
Placement depends on qualifications, experience, internal equity, and other factors.
