Position Overview
The successful candidate will teach primarily Physical Geography lecture and laboratory courses, with approximately 20% assignments in human/regional geography or geospatial studies. The department seeks individuals with strong capabilities in GIS and GIScience course development.
Candidates will contribute actively to course development, promotion of the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) in Geography, and student recruitment. Involvement in departmental committees and program-level assessments is expected.
Collaboration opportunities exist with The Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center (BCTC), particularly in geospatial science and hazards-related courses.

Required Qualifications

Masterās degree in Geography
OR -
Bachelorās in Geography AND Masterās in Geology, History, Meteorology, or Oceanography
OR -
Equivalent (per California academic standards)

Evidence of teaching experience in Physical Geography lecture and lab
Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in introductory GIS

Two years of classroom teaching experience (desired)

Experience in any of the following:

Web GIS

Cartography

Spatial data collection

Geospatial methodologies

Experience with assessment of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

Experience working with Latinx/Hispanic, African American, Native American, or socioeconomically minoritized student groups

Expertise in culturally responsive geography instruction
