Description of Work Unit:
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is a leading research university with ~32,000 students. Fort Collins offers access to cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities and is located on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.

The Department of Atmospheric Science is part of the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering, with 22 faculty members, 80 graduate students, 70+ full-time researchers and postdocs, and extensive externally sponsored research (~$16M annually).

The Wu Research Group studies atmospheric compositions and land-atmosphere interactions, including greenhouse gases and air pollutants over urban, agricultural, and natural ecosystems.


Position Summary:
The postdoc will support a NASA project investigating nitrogen oxide emissions from croplands using satellite (TEMPO) and regional chemical transport models. The position reports to Prof. Dien Wu and collaborates with Prof. Stephen Ogle, Dr. Ram Gurung, Dr. Anping Chen, and JPL collaborators.


Required Job Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences, or a related field

  • Experience with atmospheric transport models (e.g., WRF/WRF-Chem, STILT)

  • Experience analyzing atmospheric observations (in situ, aircraft, or remotely sensed)

  • Proficient programming skills (Python, R)

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Experience in remote sensing products, inverse modeling, or data assimilation

  • Knowledge of land-atmosphere processes and atmospheric chemistry

  • Experience in multi-disciplinary research settings

  • Self-motivated and collaborative

  • Strong science communication skills


Job Duty Categories & Responsibilities:

Research (70%):

  • Interpret satellite- and aircraft-based atmospheric observations

  • Perform flux estimates using data-driven or inverse modeling approaches

  • Investigate drivers of estimated fluxes

Publication/Presentation of Research Results (15%):

  • Publish findings in preprints, journals, and reports

  • Prepare scientific graphics and manuscripts

  • Present results at conferences, seminars, and to the public

Career Planning and Development (15%):

  • Attend project meetings and communicate with team members

  • Participate in mentoring of graduate students and summer interns

  • Engage in career planning and professional development
