Position Overview

Syracuse University invites applications for a part-time adjunct instructor to teach two sections of EAR 117 – Oceanography in the College of Arts and Sciences during the Spring 2026 semester.

Course Description

EAR 117 – Oceanography provides a comprehensive introduction to the geology, physics, chemistry, and biology of the world ocean and explores its impact on global climate and environmental concerns.


Salary Determination

Salary is based on:

  • Education, experience, and relevant skills

  • Academic/professional discipline within the home department, school, or college

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience

Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

  • Ph.D. in Earth Sciences or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or update course syllabus

  • Order required books and materials in advance

  • Prepare lectures, projects, and student assignments

  • Maintain two hours of weekly office hours

  • Teach according to class competencies and performance levels

  • Meet all designated class periods and communicate absences to the department chair

  • Maintain and track student learning outcomes

  • Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner

  • Submit final grades according to University regulations

  • Complete departmentally required course-related tasks
