Position Overview

WGU seeks full-time, student-focused faculty to develop and deliver competency-based, online instruction in Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, or Physical Science. Faculty support student success through one-to-one coaching, virtual instruction, and facilitation of student communities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop instructional materials aligned with course competencies and learning objectives

• Facilitate virtual, one-to-many instructional events and one-to-one coaching

• Support peer collaboration and engagement in online student communities

• Apply data and student profiles to identify needs and provide proactive support

• Use adult learning principles to build student competency in a virtual environment

• Engage in continuous professional development

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Master’s degree in Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, or Physical Science

• Demonstrated subject-matter expertise

• Ability to work flexible student-centered schedules (evenings and at least one weekend day)

• Willingness to attend and travel for organizational events

Preferred:

• Doctorate (Ph.D. or EdD) in relevant field

• 5+ years teaching experience in Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, or Physical Science

• 3–5 years K-12 teaching experience within the last 5 years

• Experience with online/distance education

Skills & Competencies (KSAs)

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills

• Ability to adapt instructional materials to diverse student needs

• Proficiency in designing presentations, assessments, and learning experiences

• Skilled at facilitating virtual synchronous and asynchronous learning

• Experience with student coaching, encouragement, and competency-building
