About the Library

The Tanimura & Antle Family Memorial Library supports academic success by facilitating exploration, discovery, and synthesis of information. Library services are integrated with on-campus programs such as writing support, tutoring, advising, career services, and undergraduate research.


Position Summary

CSUMB seeks an enthusiastic and innovative Research & Instruction Librarian to provide:

  • Learner-centered information literacy instruction

  • Research consultations and reference services

  • Collection development

  • Department liaison responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to student engagement, serve on committees, support equity-driven initiatives, and participate in shared governance. Evening and occasional weekend hours may be required.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as faculty liaison to academic programs (area to be determined)

  • Deliver course-integrated information literacy instruction

  • Manage collection development in assigned subject areas

  • Provide in-person and virtual reference services (avg. 6 hrs/week)

  • Collaborate on services and programs supporting equitable student success

  • Create and maintain instructional tools (LibGuides, tutorials, videos, etc.)

  • Stay current with developments in librarianship

  • Contribute to retention, tenure, and promotion expectations in:

    • Teaching and Learning

    • Research and Scholarship

    • Professional Service

    • University Service


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Information/Library Science (ALA-accredited or equivalent)

  • Understanding of current trends and standards in librarianship

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, presentation, analytical, communication, and decision-making skills

  • Successful experience in collaborative academic settings

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Engagement in professional scholarship and activities aligned with CSUMB values


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in classroom instruction or group training (information literacy)

  • Reference/research service experience

  • Collection development skills

  • Experience or interest in business or education librarianship

  • Familiarity with instructional technologies (LMS, LibGuides, Zoom, screencasting)

  • Experience developing innovative library programs

  • Collaboration with academic programs/faculty

  • Professional involvement and scholarly contributions

  • Additional graduate degree

  • Proficiency in another language

  • Participation in professional library organizations

  • Experience applying knowledge in new contexts
