The Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor with a preferred start date of January 2026. This is a non-tenure track position; the initial appointment is for one academic semester, limited to June 27, 2026, with anticipated nine-month academic year renewals.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate Biomedical Engineering courses, as well as teaching and coordinating BME laboratory courses. This may include training and supervising graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants. The individual may also be asked to teach other courses within the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering as needed.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate will contribute to the development of student assessment and course review materials, which are required for program review by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Specific teaching assignments will vary according to departmental needs, and the anticipated teaching load is 12 credits per semester. Applicants must hold a Master’s or Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field such as electrical engineering or instrumentation. They should also have demonstrated experience in teaching BME courses through roles such as teaching assistantships, adjunct appointments, or per-course instruction. Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and prior experience working with diverse groups or populations are essential.

Preferred qualifications include industrial experience, prior teaching of lecture and laboratory courses in an ABET-accredited BME program, experience supervising teaching assistants in lab settings, and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
