Position Overview

The Center for Urban Science + Progress (CUSP) seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to develop and implement protocols for addressing community concerns about trust and transparency in smart cities, with a focus on a new smart city project in Vietnam. This position involves research, collaboration, and international engagement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain networks of local collaborators in Ho Chi Minh City (researchers, practitioners, community organizations, municipal officials)

  • Develop and implement collaborative workshops and focus groups to address site-specific concerns

  • Coordinate knowledge sharing between NYC faculty and Vietnamese project partners

  • Conduct case study research on project design and implementation

  • Collaborate with faculty and external partners, including travel to Ho Chi Minh City

  • Perform other research-related tasks as needed


Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Urban Planning, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Information Science, Urban Science, or related field

  • Background in digital civics and public interest technology research, particularly in smart city technologies and open data platforms

  • Experience designing, conducting, and analyzing participatory workshops or co-design activities

  • Experience with community and civic engagement and working with local governments or community-based organizations

  • Strong publication record

  • Eligibility to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cross-cultural collaborations, working across languages and geographies

  • Project management experience for multi-stakeholder research or policy projects

  • Vietnamese language skills (helpful but not required)
