Position Summary
The Gwendolyn Brooks Library seeks an innovative, collaborative, student-success-oriented librarian to serve as Research Services Coordinator. This 12-month faculty position involves leading a team of research and instruction librarians, overseeing reference and research services, and advancing a new reference service model. The role requires engagement in library instruction, consultation, collection management, and student development.
Key Responsibilities

Lead a team of librarians in delivering reference and research services

Implement and advance a new reference service model

Manage on-call librarian schedules and reference service hours

Develop, review, and approve reference policies, procedures, and communications

Update Reference Handbook, LibGuides, and collections

Serve on the Collections Committee

Supervise and train student employees

Participate in reference services, instruction, research consultations, subject liaison, and collection development
Required Qualifications
-
MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution
-
Minimum of 6 consecutive years of professional experience in reference and instruction services

Proven experience in in-person and virtual reference services and library instruction

Knowledge of emerging trends in reference service and library technology

Experience with Springshare LibApps (LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibWizard, LibInsight)

Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and implement change
Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of professional experience in reference and instruction services

Leadership and project management experience

Experience with student success initiatives, virtual instruction, outreach, and engagement

Experience with collection development, liaison roles, or sciences/health sciences

Evidence of active professional service and development

Second master’s degree (required for tenure eligibility) in sciences, health sciences, or instructional design
