Job Summary

Nature of Work

Full-time faculty position in the Mathematics Department, primarily focused on teaching general mathematics courses. Proven teaching ability, experience using technology for instruction, and familiarity with online teaching and course development are preferred. Willingness to teach online courses is required. All courses in the Chadron State College Mathematics program are delivered entirely online but taught from the college.

General Summary

Responsible for providing instruction aligned with the College’s philosophy and objectives.


Essential Duties

1. Teaching & Academic Growth

  • Demonstrate knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject.

  • Maintain professional competence in the classroom and relevant field.

  • Create a learning-conducive classroom environment.

  • Respect students as learners.

  • Develop clear course requirements, objectives, and evaluation methods.

  • Plan short-term and long-term course outcomes.

  • Present abstract concepts effectively.

  • Use diverse teaching strategies to meet various learning styles.

  • Engage students through lectures, discussions, and laboratory activities.

  • Incorporate updated content through multimedia and online materials.

  • Integrate new teaching methodologies and technology.

  • Encourage critical thinking.

  • Use innovative teaching approaches.

  • Meet scheduled responsibilities reliably.

  • Maintain office hours and remain accessible to students.

  • Provide timely assessments of student progress.

  • Ensure fairness in examination and grading procedures.

  • Participate in program assessment and course catalog updates.

  • Periodically review and update courses.

  • Engage in program review activities.

2. Advising Students

  • Understand college policies and program requirements.

  • Assist students in planning their academic path.

  • Provide support regarding academic and career-related concerns.

  • Support departmental student recruitment, retention, and success strategies.

  • Maintain availability for student advising.

  • Communicate regularly with advisees.

  • Offer leadership to student organizations and activities.

Required Qualifications

  • MA in Mathematics or related field (minimum 18 graduate credit hours in Mathematics).

  • Terminal degree required for tenure consideration.

  • Ability to teach online courses.


Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Mathematics or related field.
