Assistant Professor – Department of Mathematics
Florida A&M University


Position Overview

The Department of Mathematics at Florida A&M University (FAMU) invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarly research, and enhancing both undergraduate and graduate academic experiences.


Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses.

  • Engage in scholarly research and secure external funding when possible.

  • Advise students academically and contribute to student development.

  • Participate in departmental and university service activities.

  • Utilize modern teaching technologies and innovative pedagogical practices.

  • Support and foster a positive and collaborative academic atmosphere.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a closely related field.

  • Preference given to candidates with strong experience in Financial Mathematics, Statistics, or Actuarial Science.

  • Commitment to high-quality instruction across a broad range of mathematics courses.

  • Interest in developing interdisciplinary initiatives within mathematics.

  • Strong dedication to research and university service.


Recommended Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).

  • Ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Capacity to secure external research funding.

  • Proven experience in student academic development.

  • Proficiency with teaching technologies and modern pedagogical approaches.

  • Creativity in academic problem-solving.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty across departments.


Pay Plan

This is a Faculty position.


Conditions of Employment

  • Pre-employment screening required (criminal background check, reference verification, and education confirmation).

  • Applicable official educational documents must be submitted at onboarding.

  • Only U.S. citizens or individuals legally authorized to work in the U.S. are eligible.

  • Proof of identity and employment eligibility must be provided within three (3) days of employment.

  • Per Section 110.1128, Florida Statutes, male applicants born after October 1, 1962 must provide proof of Selective Service registration.
