Position Overview
The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning Fall 2026 on the Brownsville campus:

One position in Mathematics

Two positions in Statistics
Successful candidates will be expected to:

Develop and maintain a productive, independent research program with potential for external funding.

Demonstrate excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Contribute to the growth and development of academic programs, including the Ph.D. program in Mathematics and Statistics with Interdisciplinary Applications.

Engage in mentorship, collaboration, and service aligned with UTRGV’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution (earned by the start date of appointment).
Required Qualifications

Demonstrated potential for independent research and scholarly productivity in Mathematics or Statistics.

Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Postdoctoral research experience demonstrating continued scholarly development.

Evidence of an active and productive research program or potential for high-quality journal publications.
-
Demonstrated ability to secure extramural research funding.
-
Experience in technology-enhanced, innovative, or evidence-based teaching practices.
