Position Overview

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning Fall 2026 on the Brownsville campus:

• One position in Mathematics

• Two positions in Statistics

Successful candidates will be expected to:

• Develop and maintain a productive, independent research program with potential for external funding.

• Demonstrate excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

• Contribute to the growth and development of academic programs, including the Ph.D. program in Mathematics and Statistics with Interdisciplinary Applications.

• Engage in mentorship, collaboration, and service aligned with UTRGV’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution (earned by the start date of appointment).

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated potential for independent research and scholarly productivity in Mathematics or Statistics.

• Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral research experience demonstrating continued scholarly development.

• Evidence of an active and productive research program or potential for high-quality journal publications.

• Demonstrated ability to secure extramural research funding.

• Experience in technology-enhanced, innovative, or evidence-based teaching practices.
