Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Establish and maintain a strong record of high-quality research in Data Science, Machine Learning, and/or AI.

  • Teach mathematics and/or statistics courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Supervise student projects at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Participate in service to the university and professional community.

Appointment rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience in accordance with university policies.


Department & Research Environment

The Department of Mathematics offers strengths across Analysis, Topology, Algebra, Combinatorics, Statistics (including Data Science and Machine Learning), Applied Mathematics, Logic, and Mathematics Education. The department launched a Ph.D. program in Mathematics in Fall 2025, complementing its existing Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and master’s programs. Faculty maintain over $3 million in active grants, including NSF CAREER awards and Sloan Fellowships.

Required Qualifications

Assistant Professor

  • Doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field prior to employment.

  • Evidence of or potential for research excellence in Data Science, ML, or AI.

  • Potential to obtain external research funding.

  • Ability to teach and mentor students and advise projects.

Associate Professor

  • Doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

  • Proven research excellence and prior grant funding.

  • Strong teaching and student mentorship record.

Professor

  • Doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

  • Sustained record of research excellence and external funding.

  • Established history of teaching and mentoring at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of interdisciplinary research collaboration.
