Position Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. The successful candidate will be expected to:

Establish and maintain a strong record of high-quality research in Data Science, Machine Learning, and/or AI.

Teach mathematics and/or statistics courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
-
Supervise student projects at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
-
Participate in service to the university and professional community.
Appointment rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience in accordance with university policies.
Department & Research Environment
The Department of Mathematics offers strengths across Analysis, Topology, Algebra, Combinatorics, Statistics (including Data Science and Machine Learning), Applied Mathematics, Logic, and Mathematics Education. The department launched a Ph.D. program in Mathematics in Fall 2025, complementing its existing Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and master’s programs. Faculty maintain over $3 million in active grants, including NSF CAREER awards and Sloan Fellowships.

Required Qualifications
Assistant Professor
-
Doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field prior to employment.

Evidence of or potential for research excellence in Data Science, ML, or AI.

Potential to obtain external research funding.

Ability to teach and mentor students and advise projects.
Associate Professor
-
Doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

Proven research excellence and prior grant funding.

Strong teaching and student mentorship record.
Professor
-
Doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

Sustained record of research excellence and external funding.
-
Established history of teaching and mentoring at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of interdisciplinary research collaboration.
