Position Overview
Northeastern University’s College of Science and Quantum Materials and Sensing Institute (QMSI) seek exceptional candidates to establish transformative research programs in quantum materials and quantum information science and engineering. Appointments are available at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates may have tenure home in Physics, with possible joint appointments across other science and engineering departments.
Research Focus Areas Include:

Advanced quantum materials synthesis
-
Novel qubit platforms (superconducting, topological, photonic, spin-based)
-
Room-temperature quantum devices
-
Spintronics, quantum sensing, metrology, and quantum networks/communications
-
AI/ML-driven quantum research, hybrid quantum-classical algorithms, and quantum device design
-
Error correction, fault-tolerant architectures, and quantum advantage demonstrations
Facilities & Collaboration:
-
State-of-the-art clean rooms, ultrafast optical spectroscopy, cryogenic systems, quantum transport tools
-
High-performance computing clusters
-
Active collaboration with QMSI and affiliated research laboratories
Key Responsibilities
-
Develop independent, cross-disciplinary research programs
-
Attract external funding and manage research projects
-
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses
-
Supervise students and postdoctoral researchers
-
Contribute to departmental, university, and disciplinary service
Qualifications
Required:
-
Ph.D. in physics, engineering, quantum-related discipline, or relevant interdisciplinary area

Strong record of scholarly accomplishments and potential to build a world-class research program
Associate Professor Level:
-
Minimum 5 years of experience
-
Established trajectory in research funding, leadership, and academic excellence
Preferred:
-
Experience bridging theory and experiment
-
Demonstrated expertise in AI/ML applications in quantum science
