Position Title
Assistant Professor – Aviation (Airframe & Powerplant)
Job Summary
Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), Utah’s largest and most diverse higher education institution, seeks a full-time Assistant Professor in Aviation. This role involves teaching students in Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) courses, covering aircraft engines, structures, avionics, electronics, mathematics, and physics, in alignment with FAA-approved curriculum under CFR Part 147.
Faculty are expected to engage in teaching, curriculum development, advising, service, and professional activity to support the College’s mission and student success.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Teach courses in A&P, avionics, and related aviation technology areas.

Deliver instruction consistent with approved curriculum and department standards.

Provide effective student learning experiences using applied, hands-on teaching methods.

Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance.

Participate in curriculum development and program improvement.

Mentor students, hold office hours, and support advising.

Serve on departmental, school, and college committees.

Maintain professional credentials and engage in ongoing faculty development.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
-
Strong knowledge of FAA Part 91, 121, and 135 flight regulations.

Technical expertise in Aircraft Structures, Systems, and Powerplants.

Ability to teach basic and advanced maintenance skills.
-
High-level dexterity in aircraft repair and troubleshooting.

Effective communication and collaboration with students and colleagues.
-
Commitment to inclusive, culturally competent teaching practices.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
-
Experience in transport aircraft, general aviation, commercial aviation, inspection, and avionics.

General and commercial aviation experience.
Note: A conferred degree is required to obtain tenure (within 3–6 years).
Preferred Qualifications
-
Proficiency in IFR 4000/6000 avionics testing equipment.

Knowledge of FAA flight regulations (Parts 91, 121, 135).

Expertise in avionics, electrical wiring, communications, and navigation systems.

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and pedagogical skills.

Ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues.
