Position Title

Assistant Professor – Aviation (Airframe & Powerplant)

Job Summary

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), Utah’s largest and most diverse higher education institution, seeks a full-time Assistant Professor in Aviation. This role involves teaching students in Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) courses, covering aircraft engines, structures, avionics, electronics, mathematics, and physics, in alignment with FAA-approved curriculum under CFR Part 147.

Faculty are expected to engage in teaching, curriculum development, advising, service, and professional activity to support the College’s mission and student success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in A&P, avionics, and related aviation technology areas.

  • Deliver instruction consistent with approved curriculum and department standards.

  • Provide effective student learning experiences using applied, hands-on teaching methods.

  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance.

  • Participate in curriculum development and program improvement.

  • Mentor students, hold office hours, and support advising.

  • Serve on departmental, school, and college committees.

  • Maintain professional credentials and engage in ongoing faculty development.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong knowledge of FAA Part 91, 121, and 135 flight regulations.

  • Technical expertise in Aircraft Structures, Systems, and Powerplants.

  • Ability to teach basic and advanced maintenance skills.

  • High-level dexterity in aircraft repair and troubleshooting.

  • Effective communication and collaboration with students and colleagues.

  • Commitment to inclusive, culturally competent teaching practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.

  2. Experience in transport aircraft, general aviation, commercial aviation, inspection, and avionics.

  3. General and commercial aviation experience.
    Note: A conferred degree is required to obtain tenure (within 3–6 years).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in IFR 4000/6000 avionics testing equipment.

  • Knowledge of FAA flight regulations (Parts 91, 121, 135).

  • Expertise in avionics, electrical wiring, communications, and navigation systems.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and pedagogical skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues.
