Position Description
San José State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Aviation with a specialization in Professional Flight or Aircraft Systems. The successful candidate will teach courses in private pilot ground, instrument flight, commercial pilot ground, aviation meteorology, aircraft multi-engine, or courses in systems, avionics, turbines, and powerplants. Additional duties include conducting research, mentoring students, and contributing to curriculum development.
The Department of Aviation and Technology, the oldest in the College of Engineering, serves 900+ students across BS and MS degree programs and is ranked #1 on the West Coast and #4 nationally for Aviation programs.
Required Qualifications

Doctorate in Aviation/Aeronautics or related field (or Master’s with significant aviation industry experience and research ability).

Demonstrated expertise in Aviation subject areas.

Strong commitment to teaching a diverse student population, curricular innovation, and funded research.

Awareness and sensitivity to diverse student needs.
Preferred Qualifications

Research expertise in aircraft systems design, flight operations, avionics, or flight training.

Valid FAA flight certificates and knowledge of FAA regulations.

Significant academic or industry teaching/research experience.
