About the Department of Aviation and Aerospace Science

The Department of Aviation and Aerospace Science is MSU Denver’s third-largest and fastest-growing department, benefiting from Colorado’s prominence in aviation and aerospace. Proximity to Denver International Airport, Colorado Air and Space Port, and regional airports gives students access to a vibrant aviation hub. The program prepares graduates for careers in aerospace, flight operations, airport and aerospace management, and air traffic control.

Position Summary

The Department of Aviation and Aerospace Science seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Aviation and Aerospace Management. This is a 9-month appointment beginning August 2026.

The successful candidate will teach 12 credit hours per semester (4 courses), advise students, engage in scholarship, and contribute to curriculum development. Courses will support the Aviation and Aerospace Management degree with focus areas such as:

  • Airline Planning

  • Airport & Spaceport Planning and Management

  • Aviation & Aerospace Law

  • Air Cargo Industry

  • Aviation Safety and Security Program Management

  • Business & General Aviation Operations

Teaching formats include in-person, hybrid, and online. Summer teaching may be available.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester in aviation/aerospace management.

  • Advise and mentor students (5 office hours weekly + additional meetings).

  • Support student career preparation and graduate school planning.

  • Contribute to curriculum design and program development.

  • Maintain culturally responsive and evidence-based teaching practices.

  • Assess learning outcomes and support program effectiveness.

  • Engage in departmental, university, and professional service.

  • Conduct scholarly activities in aviation/aerospace management.

  • Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and industry partners.

  • Maintain FAA licensure, certifications, or relevant credentials.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Aviation Management, Aerospace Sciences, Aeronautical Sciences, Transportation, Business Administration, or related field (from a nationally accredited institution).

  • Minimum 4 years of aviation/aerospace industry experience in management, operations, safety, or related domains.
    (Note: An MS or MA in the above fields is considered terminal for tenure-track at MSU Denver.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or D.B.A.) in Aviation/Aerospace Management, Business, Transportation, or related field.

  • Prior collegiate teaching experience at a U.S. accredited institution.

  • Research, publishing, or professional writing experience in aviation/aerospace.

  • Familiarity with FAA, ICAO, TSA, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Expertise in:

    • Airport/Airline management and planning

    • Aviation finance, economics, or policy

    • Aviation safety and security systems

    • Aerospace commerce and/or spaceport management

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse and first-generation students.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $84,000 – $94,000 (monthly pay, within posted range per Colorado law).
