Position Summary

Adjunct faculty are appointed on a course or module basis per term. The HVAC-R Adjunct Instructor will teach courses in a blended learning format (on-campus/off-campus, weekdays/weekends, day/evening). Responsibilities include curriculum delivery, student engagement, and alignment with certification standards such as:

• Entry-Level HVAC-R Technician Certification(s)

• EPA Section 608 and 609 Certifications

• OSHA Construction Industry Safety Standards

Adjunct instructors report to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Instruction & Learning Facilitation

• Teach HVAC-R courses using lectures, hands-on activities, and multimedia.

• Incorporate real-world case studies and interactive learning methods.

• Provide constructive feedback and support to help students succeed.

Managing Learning

• Implement curriculum aligned to industry standards and certification outcomes.

• Track student progress, attendance, assignments, and grades.

• Collaborate with Student Services to support learners facing challenges.

Student Engagement

• Hold office hours for additional learner support.

• Foster a collaborative, inclusive classroom environment.

• Adjust teaching methods based on learner feedback.

Organizational Engagement

• Collaborate with colleagues to enhance program quality.

• Stay updated on HVAC-R industry trends and certifications.

• Participate in professional development and contribute to continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced credentials or professional experience accepted in lieu of degree.

• Five years of HVAC-R industry experience (preferred).

• Three years of teaching experience in adult learning or professional development.

• Familiarity with learning outcomes, course design, and blended learning formats.

• Proficiency in technology tools (LMS, productivity software, video conferencing).

• Strong collaboration skills and commitment to student success.

Working Conditions

• Based in Washington, D.C.

• May require local travel, evening, or weekend teaching.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for long periods.

• Lift objects up to 25 lbs.

• Perform repetitive tasks with limited breaks.
