Job Summary

The Department of Bioengineering in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) invites applications for two tenure-system Assistant Professor positions in Bioengineering and/or Biomedical Engineering within the Health Innovations research thrust.

While Biomedical Optical Imaging is of particular interest, applicants with expertise in any of the department’s six research areas—bioimaging, biomechanics, biomaterials, biosensors/bioelectronics, neural engineering, and systems biology—are strongly encouraged to apply.

Candidates from related disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Physics, or Mathematics whose research intersects with Bio/Biomedical Engineering are also welcome.

The positions will begin in Fall 2026.


Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the core biomedical engineering curriculum and in the candidate’s area of specialization.

  • Establish and maintain a robust, externally funded research program.

  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities.


Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline (required prior to employment).

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

  • Evidence of potential for high-quality research and effective teaching using inclusive, evidence-based practices.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Doctorate in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field (Materials Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics).

  • Proven record of research productivity, publication, and student mentorship in bioengineering/biomedical areas.

The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science houses six dynamic departments with over 250 faculty members and approximately 8,300 students. The school fosters close collaborations between departments and industry partners across North Texas, offering exceptional internship and employment opportunities.

The Department of Bioengineering, founded in 2010, has become the largest Biomedical Engineering program in North Texas and one of the largest undergraduate programs in the U.S. according to ASEE.
